Erin has been spending most of his free time working on the chicken coop. It looks great so far!

Chick Update

The chicks are almost 3 weeks old and growing rapidly. They are a funny mess of fluff and feathers. On warm days they enjoy a little outside time in the backyard. Katie and Meg watch the skies for hawks and try to get the chicks to follow them around the yard.

New Additions

We doubled the size of our family overnight....

and added 4 chicks to our family. Yes, really! We are going to keep chickens in our backyard.
We chose 2 Black Star pullets and 2 Barred Rock pullets. They'll soon live in a cozy coop in our backyard and by the end of summer they'll be supplying us with fresh eggs.

I spent several months researching backyard chickens and talked with a lady who lives a few blocks from us who has kept chickens in her backyard for several years. Just in case you are interested, here are some helpful places to get more information: My Pet Chicken and Backyard Chickens.

Laying Low

We were hit with the crummy virus that is going around this week...

so we've been resting a lot and doing easy crafts.

We've also been watching Molly the Barn Owl feed her babies. We're hoping to see the one remaining egg hatch today.
